On Growth

Man's mind and spirit grow with the space in which they are allowed to operate. —Krafft A. Ehricke, rocket pioneer

The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the one who will win.—Roger Bannister

Don't be afraid; just believe. —Jesus

In our dreams we are able to fly . . . and that is a remembering of how we were meant to be. —Madeleine L'Engle,

The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible, but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore. . . . Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible. . . . It is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavors. . . . to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown.
—Unknown

When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly. —Patrick Overton

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.— Isaiah 43:18-19.

The Magellan quote is an absolute invention. Nowhere in any primary or secondary account--by Antonio Pigafetta, Francisco Albo, the Genoese Pilot, Martinho de Aiamonte, Gines de Mafra, Sebastian Elcano, the Anonymous Portuguese, Antonio de Herrera, Joao de Barros, etc.--can you find that quote. This quote was invented by Successories but subsequently dropped when they found it cannot be traced to any source.

In 2000 this quote was the subject of a heated debate at the Discovery Web mailing list which is composed of the world's top navigation, exploration, discovery historians. It was the unanimous consensus that it's a fake; no one challenged that conclusion.

Hello! Thanks for visiting me. I was just scrolling through the comments on my blog and saw yours. I love meeting wonderful new folks through blogging. LL's writing, in particular, has been a tremendous blessing to me.

About the tat: not my own design (it is actually borrowed from the Goo Goo Dolls "Gutterflower" album), but I did modify it a bit from the original. It has significance for me spiritually, but the way I originally wrote the story just wasn't authentic, so I suppose I'll post it when I can write it in a way that is truly genuine.

I really appreciated your comments over on Seedlings. It has been quite the discussion on anger, & I've been gleaning much from everyone's own insights and shared experiences.

Thanks again for visiting!

Thanks for the comment - Tapestry is a wonderful biography of the lives of the Schaeffers - the rest of mine is coming a bit at a time as work and the Holy Spirit allow.

I like the Isaiah verse. That's where I'm at right now... waiting for God to do a new thing, waiting for streams from a certain wasteland.

Kirsten, thanks for the orgins regarding the tat. Look forward to reading "the rest of the story" sometime.

Halfmom, thanks for stopping in and for your blog entry about tapestry.

LL, the Isaiah verse...what a wonder, what a promise! May your wasteland soon be lush and thriving with life in His time.
